The Concorde Wheelchair Dancers - 27th July 2009

: Meet the Concordes :

The Concorde Wheelchair Dancers are a Bristol dance team with members representing all ages and many disabilities.

If you can propel your own wheelchair - whether manual or electric - and share our passion for dancing, regardless of your disability, age or experience, we'd like to hear from you. Check out the information on this website, and if you're interested, send us an email or give our chairperson, Julia, a call on 01173 009615.

Apart from practicing every Monday evening (except Bank Holidays) from 7.30 - 9.30pm at Page Hall, Staple Hill, Bristol, we enjoy national festivals and competitions, fund-raisers and fun days, and perform at demonstration events across the country.

This website is also home to the UK Wheelchair Dance Directory, an in-development resource intended for wheelchair dancers to find or start up teams in their local area.

: 2 July 2010 :
It's been over six months since the last update to this site - apologies for that, we're afraid the web author has been preoccupied with new-found fatherhood! The Concordes haven't been sat idle, though, with a couple of new members, quite a bit more interest generated from this very website, and a couple of demonstration events which we hope to provide more about in the coming days.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr and Mrs Ireland for the very kind donation of £455.00 raised recently at their Golden Wedding party.  They asked for donations to Concordes instead of presents.  They are grandparents to our youngest member, Beth.  Apparently a great night was had by all and the donation will help greatly towards funds for the competition in November in Blackpool.

Watch this space for an invitation to a Fun/Taster Wheelchair Dance day that is being organized in Bristol for all wheelchair users on Saturday 9th April 2011.

: 8 December 2009 :
We'd also very much like to thank the John James Bristol Foundation for their incredibly generous donation of £1650.00, which will very much help with costs towards our Blackpool 2009 transport. Around Christmas time, the kindess of charity is more appreciated than ever - thank you so much for your support. See how you can help the Concordes, too.

: 8 December 2009 :
We'd like to send out a very big THANK YOU to the Freemasons, for their recent generous donation. Our chair person, Julia, has this to say:

We were recently visited by members of the Downend-based Kendleshire Freemason Lodge who gave us a donation of £250.00.  This is the third donation that Concordes have received over the years from the Freemasons and the donation will greatly help towards us getting to Blackpool [for the next National Wheelchair Dance Festival] in November 2010.  As well as handing over the donation the Freemasons spoke to our Chairperson and took a group photo.  The article and photo will be published in a Freemasons magazine.  Concordes then invited the Freemasons to join a bit of social dancing with some of the them dancing on their feet and a couple of them actually dancing in wheelchairs.  A great night was had by all and Concordes would like to take the opportunity to thank the Freemasons for their continued support.

: 24 August 2009 :
Keen twitter followers will have noticed a few small updates to our website over the last few days, including a "Share" button on this page to help you spread the word of Wheelchair Dancing in the UK, and a new facility to make donations to the Concordes through Paypal. We're also pleased to announce that we've finally added two new videos of the Concordes in action to our YouTube page.

Click here to see the Concordes dance to The Scissor Sisters hit, "I Don't Feel Like Dancing".

Click here to see the Concordes dance in PHAB (both wheelchair users and able-bodied dancers together) to "The Penny Whistle Barn Dance".

: 11 August 2009 :
As posted on our twitter page a few days ago, the Concordes would like to extend a very big thank you to Linda Garrett, whose donation of £150.00 to our group will help towards costs of our October National Wheelchair Dance Fun Day. Linda organised a Line Dancing evening in Somerton, Somerset on 17th July, in aid of "Help For Heroes" - when she learned about the Concordes through this website, she felt we deserved half of the funds raised for our contribution to wheelchair users. Linda tells us she's hoping to organise another Line Dancing evening in the near future - perhaps you'd like to email her for further details? Once again, many thanks to you and your dancers for your valued contibution!

: 24 May 2009 :
Yesterday, the Concordes took part in the MS Society Fun Day held at the National Star Centre in Cheltenham. A short report on the day can be found on our Events page, and photos from the event are now in our gallery. Soon, hopefully, we'll have some videos of full dances to view on a new YouTube page dedicated to wheelchairdance.co.uk. Keep an eye on our twitter page for the latest news as it happens.

: 8 April 2009 :
Fun fact: tomorrow is the 40th Anniversary of the Concorde aircraft that (in part) gave us our name! Keep an eye out on our twitter feed - even easier now you can find the most recent entries on the top right of this page - for other news about the relationship between Concorde and the Concorde dancers!

: 13 Mar 2009 :
A couple of new events have been added to our calendar - on 23rd May 2009 you'll be able to see the Concordes in action with a demonstration at the Gloucester MS Fun Day, held at The Star Centre in Cheltenham from 1.30pm. We also have a demo lined up for Arthritis Care at Bishop Sutton, scheduled for Saturday 19th of September (times to be confirmed). Keep your eyes peeled on our twitter page for further updates!

: 24 Feb 2009 :
Added a "ticker" to the top of this page, with the facility to show future latest updates as scrolling news messages.

: 24 Feb 2009 :
The Concordes would like to thank Brian Bees, of the Fishponds Family Practice in Bristol, for kick-starting a donation of £138.42 for our charity. Many, many thanks! We hope to set up a page on this website in the future to act as a record of thank-yous to the many other grants and donations that we depend on as a small charity.

: 22 Feb 2009 :
A new-look wheelchairdance.co.uk update launched - even more streamlined than before!

We hope you enjoy our new style (as you can see above, we couldn't decide on a colour for our new logo, so we've used the whole rainbow) - comments, as usual, are welcome to rob@wheelchairdance.co.uk.

Happy dancing!
